Welcome! This is an official application for a permit to purchase and own a pistol or handgun. You must completely and accurately fill-out this application to be considered for a permit. Any falsification of the information within this application will result in the refusal of this application for a purchase permit.
State Law requires the Sheriff to advise you within 14 days as to whether or not your permit is approved or denied. Your pistol purchase permit will be issued within 14 business days, depending on when the application is received or if any problems are incurred while processing your permit. AFTER COMPLETING YOUR APPLICATION, PLEASE PRINT OFF THE REQUIRED MENTAL HEALTH RELEASE FORM. YOU MUST GET IT NOTARIZED AND MAIL IT IN ALONG WITH A COPY OF YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE. IF YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE IS OUT OF STATE PLEASE ALSO INCLUDE A THIRTY DAY PROOF OF CRAVEN COUNTY RESIDENCY. SEE EMAIL FOR MAILING DETAILS. Permits will not be processed until the Mental Health form has been signed. This is due to a recent change in North Carolina law.
You must pick up your permit with in 60 days of being approved, failure to do so will result in the permit being deleted and the fee is non-refundable.
A non-refundable processing fee of $5.00 is required. In addition, a convenience fee of $3.00 is required to process payment. These fees will be charged even if your application is denied.
